UEFA Medical Symposium 2023
Revolutionary Relaxation and Recovery for Athletes
Medicine has become much more important in football over the past few years. Because of the high physical demands and the risk of injuries in professional sports, many football clubs have focused on improving the medical care of their players. Medical staff like doctors, physiotherapists, and sports scientists work closely with coaches and players to help prevent injuries and speed up recovery.
New research in sports medicine and modern technology has helped us understand injuries better and come up with new ways to treat them. UEFA has also promised to keep improving the medical side of football and hosts a Medical Symposium every four years, which took place for the eighth time this year.
The 8th UEFA Medical Symposium
The 8th UEFA Medical Symposium was held from January 31 to February 2, 2023, at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt. It was an exciting event for everyone involved. The theme was "The Importance of Medicine in Football" and about 350 medical representatives from UEFA's 55 member associations, many European clubs, and other experts came together.
Main Topics Included
- The latest updates on dealing with head injuries
- Player medical care
- Medical concerns in women's football
- Emergency medicine
We also had a special opportunity to present the reLounge at the symposium, which was all about recovery.
Day 1: Challenges in Football Medicine

In professional football, players face a lot of physical stress and a high risk of injury. Because of the busy schedules and long travels, good recovery is very important to prevent injuries. Medical care for players has to be up-to-date, and medical staff need to act quickly and effectively. This puts a lot of pressure on both the medical staff and the players, who often play even when they are hurt to help their team win.
In emergencies, the medical team has to act fast while ensuring the injury doesn’t get worse. That's why sports medicine must keep evolving to meet the needs of professional athletes.
How reLounge Helps
The reLounge helps speed up recovery. It combines:
- Heat therapy
- Electrotherapy
- Lifting the legs for maximum relaxation
This combination opens up muscle cells and helps them get more nutrients, which makes players recover faster and reach their best performance more easily.
Day 1 Highlights
- A lot of people visited our booth on the first day to learn about and try the reLounge.
- After many interesting discussions and presentations, we ended the day with an official dinner hosted by UEFA.
- It was a great chance to meet and talk with other experts.
Day 2: Successful Rehabilitation Techniques

The second day focused on "getting back to playing after injuries and illnesses". Returning after an injury is really challenging for many players. It takes:
- Great medical care
- Mental strength
- Patience to get back to top performance
The timing of the comeback and coordination with the coach and team are also very important for ensuring a safe return. Holistic tools like the reLounge can really help with this.
How reLounge Supports Rehabilitation
One way our lounge works is by using medium frequency, which helps boost muscle strength and performance. Muscle activation through modulated medium frequency helps players gradually handle higher activity levels after a long break.

Day 2 Highlights
- Our booth was very busy on the second day, and we had many insightful conversations.
- During the official dinner hosted by the DFB, participants enjoyed a speech by Philipp Lahm and discussed the symposium's key topics.
Day 3: Workshops and Conclusion

The focus of the third and final day of the symposium was on workshops. This allowed participants to practice what they had learned in real situations.
Relaxation During Breaks
- Breaks were a great time for everyone to rest, and many used our reLounge to relax and recover.
Final Thoughts
This year's UEFA Medical Symposium was a special event that brought together inspiring people to share knowledge, gain experience, and make new connections. We are excited to continue conversations with those who showed interest and hope to work with some football teams in the future, helping make football better.
